Cet article présente le programme de formation ICARE (Intervention pour Comportements Agressifs en REsidence/réadaptation) qui a été élaboré spécifiquement pour la formation de parents afin de les outiller à intervenir plus efficacement auprès des comportements agressifs de leurs enfants. La structure du programme ICARE qui comporte deux volets : intervention en situation de crise et évaluation fonctionnelle des comportements agressifs est présentée. L’importance d’offrir ce type de formation aux parents afin de soutenir efficacement et d’assurer une meilleure qualité de vie à la famille entière est discutée.

Training in ICARE (Interventions in agressive behaviors in residential and readaptation programs) for parents with adolescents with mental retardation and presenting agressive behaviors

This article presents the training program ICARE (Intervention in agressive behaviors in residential/readaptation programs) which was specifically constructed as a tool for training parents grappling with agressive behaviors in their children. The program consist ot two parts: intervention in situations of crisis and functional evaluation of agressive behaviors. The importance in offering this type of training for parents is to effectively support and insure a better quality of life to the whole family.
